Students living in remote areas to get transportation cost in Odisha

In view of transportation problems faced by students living in remote areas of Odisha, the state government has decided to provide them cost from this academic session.

The government will spend Rs 3000 on each student per year. The amount will be deposited at the bank accounts of students every month.

The list of beneficiaries from class I to VIII has been prepared to provide them transportation cost.

This was decided at a review meeting chaired by School & Mass Education Secretary Ranjana Chopra yesterday here.

The S&ME has prepared a master plan to strengthen the infrastructure of primary education for the academic session 2017-18. The master plan emphasizing teachers training and community partnership for providing quality education and new curriculum for the students was approved following discussion by the senior officials for the past two days.

As many as 4,800 students living in remote regions of the State face difficulties for coming to schools. As per the decision, those students will be entitled to get the amount at their bank accounts. The number of beneficiaries identified for the benefits from government is registered more especially in tribal regions.

The department has also decided to implement Building As Learning Age (BALA) programme in the primary schools. Initially, one school in each district will be included under the programme to provide facilities to the students under all categories especially the divyang. Under the programme, the maps and biographies of great men will be placed on the building wall. The selected school will be taken as the sample. The department has decided to widen the programme with its success in the upcoming days.

According to decisions taken at meeting, School Management Committee (SMC) of primary schools will be reconstituted. The APL students will be provided free clothes from this academic session. A State Resource Centre (SRC) will be set up in Bhubaneswar to provide training to teachers. The construction will be completed by end of this fiscal, sources said.
