A decision regarding the poll was taken at a meeting of the PG Council under the chairmanship of Bal in the presence of HODs of 27 departments, sources said.

As per the decision taken in the meeting, the election will be held on October 5. However, the poll will be cancelled in the case of violence in the campus, Bal said. A special squad will be formed to maintain discipline in the campus, he added.

Notably, the advisory committee had on Monday recommended the PG Council to go for students’ union poll this year. A meeting of the council was scheduled today to take a final decision over the recommendation.

Worth mentioning, election in the varsity was cancelled last year due to student unrest.
