Sub Inspector, Constable suspended for dereliction of duty in Odisha

Phulbani: A Sub Inspector and Constable of Phulbani Town police station were suspended by Kandhamal SP Prateek Singh for alleged dereliction of duty.

The action has been taken against Sub Inspector, Bijaya Naik and Constable, Ranjit Behera after Odia daily ‘Sambad’ reported about the negligence on the part of the duo in carrying out their duties.

As per reports, looters had allegedly broken the asbestos of one Padma Sahoo’s bhog shop near Narayani temple and looted cash and other valuables late night on November 10. When Sahoo called up 100 to lodge an FIR, police said its officials would visit the spot soon. But no one turned up.

Sahoo then went to the Phulbani Town police station to lodge a complaint. The ASI and Constable who were present at the police station listened to the details. However, they did not lodge the complaint of Sahoo.

After ‘Sambad’ highlighted the matter on November 12, the Kandhamal SP called Sahoo and inquired about the matter. When he realized the truthfulness of the negligence allegations, the SP suspended the SI and Constable.

This apart, the SP has formed a team to investigate the matter.
