Subal’s wife BJD candidate for Odisha’s Bijepur bypoll: Naveen

Bhubaneswar: Clearing suspense over BJD’s candidate for Bijepur assembly constituency bypoll, party supremo Naveen Patnaik today said late MLA Subal Sahu’s wife Rita Sahu will be its candidate.

Rita Sahu, her son Sumit Sahu and hundreds of their supporters had joined the conch party on September 23.

While it was speculated by many that BJD would select Rita as its candidate for the bypoll, the ruling party’s Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya yesterday said it is yet to take a decision in this regard thereby triggering a doubt over the speculation.

Acharya, who was defeated by Subal Sahu in the 2014 general elections in Bijepur constituency, had said that the party supremo will take a decision in this regard at the right time.

Worth mentioning, Acharya was absent when Subal Sahu’s family was inducted to the party at BJD headquarters here. The MP, however, said he had informed Patnaik that he will not be able to attend the function due to other engagements.
