Odisha’s Sudarsan wins award in doubles at sand sculpting World Cup

Bhubaneswar, June 30:

Padma Shri awardee and internationally acclaimed sand artist from Odisha Sudarsan Pattnaik won another honour for the country in the doubles category with American artist Mathew Diebert at the World Cup of Sand Sculpting 2014 in Atlantic City, USA on Saturday for their sand sculpture  “Taj Mahal – Picture of Love”.

The sand sculpture depicted the eternal love story between Emperor Shahjahan and Mumtaz.

Mayor of Atlantic City presented a medal and US $ 4400 to the India-US doubles team. The top prize of USD 7000 was won by Canadian sculptors.

“I am very delighted to win another honour in the double’s category with my partner Mathews,” Sudarsan said after receiving the award.

Twenty world renowned sand artists participated in this World cup.

Sudarsan had earlier won the ‘People’s Choice’ prize in the solo category for his creation “Save tree, Save Future”.

This year Sudarsan was awarded Padmashri by the Govt. of India for his contribution to sand art.

He has participated in more than 50 International championships and festivals around the World any won many prizes for the country
