Sudarsan’s ‘Stop AIDS’ message on sand

On the eve of World AIDS Day on December 1, internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a sand sculpture depicting a big hand placed on a Red Ribbon with a boy and a girl and the message: “Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise” on the Puri beach on Friday to spread awareness about the dreaded disease.

Hordes of tourists and locals gathered on the beach to watch the sculpture on AIDS.

“I want to create awareness through my sand art. I have used 6 tons of sand and spent five hours to complete the 8-feet high sand sculpture,” Pattnaik said about his sculpture.

World AIDS Day is celebrated on 1 December every year to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and to demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the pandemic. Between 2011-2015, World AIDS Day has the theme: “Getting to zero: zero new HIV infections; zero discrimination; zero AIDS-related deaths”.
