Sunil Bansal all set to take charge as Odisha DGP

Bhubaneswar: IPS officer Sunil Kumar Bansal is all set to take charge as the Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) as the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his premature repatriation to his parent cadre, Government of Odisha.

The 1987-batch IPS officer of Odisha cadre was earlier appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the state by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of Ministry of Home Affairs for premature repatriation of Shri Sunil Kumar Bansal, IPS (OD:87), Special Director, Intelligence Bureau to his parent cadre (Government of Odisha) with immediate effect, under provision of para 6.9 of the IPS Tenure Policy,” an official notification issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet said.

Bansal was serving as the Special Director, Intelligence Bureau (IB). He will take charge as the Odisha DGP from January 1, 2022 by replacing incumbent DGP Abhay.

“On recommendation of the Union Public Service Commission and in the interest of public service, Shri Sunil Kumar Bansal, IPS (RR-1987) at present under Central Deputation as Special Director, IB Hdqrs., New Delhi is appointed as Director General of Police (HoPF), Odisha in the Apex Scale of Pay (Level 17) in the Pay Matrix for a period of two years with effect from the date of joining in the post,” a notification of Odisha Government’s Home Department had said.

Worth mentioning, incumbent DGP Abhay was earlier scheduled to retire in June, this year. However, his tenure was later extended till December 31, 2021 by the State Government.
