While the blistering heat wave in Odisha has claimed 95 people as per unofficial reports, the state government has confirmed four deaths due to sunstroke.
Reports said the situation in 15 districts has become more alarming.
As per available information, the maximum number of death due to sunstroke has been reported from Ganjam district with 20 followed by Jajpur (13), Rayagada (10), Dhenkanal (6), Baleswar (4), Mayurbhanj (5), Sundargarh (5), Kendrapara (4), Cuttack (9), Bhadrak (3) Puri (undivided) (10), Deogarh (1) and Keonjhar (5).
Sources in the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said it has received the sunstroke related deaths which has been doubled in the last 48 hours.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, GVV Sharma, SRC said while 67 sunstroke deaths have been reported in the print and electronic media, investigation into 11 cases are completed by the district collectors of which 4 deaths have been confirmed due to sunstroke while investigation into the remaining 56 cases are underway.
