Survey to detect disease-bearing mosquitoes in Bhubaneswar airport soon

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of casualties due to mosquito-borne diseases reported across the country, Centre and Odisha government decided to make a survey to detect the presence of disease-bearing mosquitoes at Bhubaneswar airport.

The joint assessment will be conducted by the officials of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the State department at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in August.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has written a letter in this regard a week ago informing the State government for the assessment at the airport.

The survey will be made to detect the mosquitoes that transmit the deadly diseases like malaria, dengue, zika and chikungunya, said an official source in the health department.

The move came as part of precautionary measure to check the possible spread of the virus transmitted by the dangerous mosquitoes at airport.

The entomologists from both the Centre and State will jointly assess the presence of such mosquitoes on premises of the Bhubaneswar airport, he said.

The category of Bhubaneswar airport in terms of mosquito assessment will be subsequently announced following the survey, he added.
