Suspected Bangladeshi youth detained in Odisha capital

Odisha police today detained a youth suspecting him to be a Bangladeshi national and allegedly obtaining a passport on the basis of forged documents.

The detained youth has been identified as Sheikh Abdulla. He is being suspected to be a Bangladeshi national. Abdulla who has been already issued with a passport was detained while he was at the regional passport office here to get clearance.

The passport office officials suspect documents submitted by Abdulla to be forged. Abdulla has claimed to be resident of Tarini Basti in VSS Nagar locality here.

“Suspicion arises on two counts. First is his talking style. He speaks in Bengali. My colleagues hailing from West Bengal have talked to him in Bengali. Secondly, his Voter ID Card no. RXL06686169 is not in line with voter ID Cards issued here. He has already issued with the passport. Police has verified him to be an Indian national. I have issued the passport to him on the basis of police verification,” said Digvijay Giri, regional passport officer, Bhubaneswar.

“I am a resident of Uttarangi village under Dankuni police station limits of Hooghly district in West Bengal. I was issued with the Voter ID Card here 4-5 years back. I want to go to Kuwait,” said Abdulla replying to questions posed by reporters.

Notably, a Bangladeshi youth Basheer had applied for a passport here in Bhubaneswar on January 20 last. He was detained and later arrested as he had no documents to claim himself to be a local resident. Next police arrested six of his accomplices from Jajpur. Basheer and one of his accomplices had revealed before the police that they had managed to crossover to India from Bangladesh under the cover of night by paying money to an agent.
