Suspected thief tonsured, paraded in Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: In another incident of inhuman act, locals punished a youth by tonsuring and humiliating him suspecting him to be a thief here this morning.

The incident occurred at Nuabaazar vegetable market under Sahadevkhunta police limits where the locals caught a youth in connection with a bicycle theft.

The accused was beaten up mercilessly. His hands were tied up and the locals shaved his head. The humiliation did not stop here. The irate locals tore his shirt and wrote ‘Chura’ (meaning thief in English) on his chest and back. He was forced to parade on the roads as part of punishment for allegedly stealing the bicycle.

The onlookers witnessing the entire episode were the mere spectators, but did not make call to police to hand over the accused.

No case has been registered. The identity of the youth is yet to be known.
