Bhubaneswar, Nov 9:
The suspension of Odisha cadre IPS and former Kendrapara SP Satish Gajbhiye has been extended by six months.
As per reports, a decision in this regard was taken at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Gokul Chandra Pati held here last week.
Notably, Gajbhiye was placed under suspension on August 13 for the police excess during anti-Sarathi Baba protest in Kendrapara on August 7 in violation of the service rules.
Prior to that, the government had shunted him out to the police headquarters as officer without duty at the height of the disturbances in Kendrapara on August 7 and replaced by Nitinjit Singh.
The Principal Secretary of the Home department had served a notice to Gajbhiye on October 13 after charges were framed against him. Besides, the Union government had approved his suspension since October 17 as per All India Service Rules.
He was served a notice by Odisha government’s Home Department and intimated about it through the Director General of Police. The notice sought a reply from the beleaguered IPS officer to explain as to why action should not be taken against him. He is expected to comply with it within 30 days.
