Sword attack case: BeMC corporator arrested, total arrests reach seven in Berhampur in Odisha
Police has so far nabbed seven persons from both sides, including Sethi's brother who is a constable in the Vigilance department.
Berhampur: Police today arrested a corporator of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) for his alleged involvement in a sword attack case that took place in Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district in the wee hours today. The accused was identified as Narasingha Sethi, corporator of ward 25 of BeMC.
Sources said in the wee hours, a group clash had erupted during immersion of Ganesh idol in the area. During the confrontation, Sethi had allegedly attacked one Arun Kumar Maharana of the same locality with a sword, a video of which had also gone viral. He was later arrested after Maharana’s family members lodged a case in this regard with the Town Police.
Police has so far nabbed seven persons from both sides, including Sethi’s brother who is a constable in the Vigilance department.
Contacted, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek said animosity was building up between the two groups since September 1. “They again came face to face on Wednesday night and the clash erupted where the two gangs attacked each other with sharp weapons,” he said.
