Odisha Tahsildar shoulders man’s bier as villagers refuse to take part in funeral

Dhenkanal: Another senior government official came forward to lend shoulders to carry mortal remains of a villager to crematorium in Bhuban block of Dhenkanal district.

As villagers of Renandapatana village in Bhuban refused to carry the bier of Niranjan Behera aged 36 years following his death today over Covid fear, Bhuban Tahsildar Pravat Behura along with Baruna Revenue Inspector Sunil Nayak and BJP leader Shatrughna Jena reached the village.

Wearing PPE kit the Tahslidar, the RI and the BJP leader along with some social activists cremated the mortal remains of Niranjan.

Few days back, Niranjan returned to Renandapatana village after suffering from fever. Later he tested positive for Covid. He breathed his last today 4 AM. His mortal remains lied in his house unattended as the villagers declined to take part in the funeral.

As per reports, Niranjan was working as the Security In-Charge at a private news channel in Bhubaneswar.

Yesterday, Chhendipada Block Development Officer, Sanjay Kumar Acharya along with some local officials carried the bier of an elderly man in a village under Chhendipada block in Angul district after villagers refused to take part in the cremation over Covid fear.
