Talcher MLA Braja Pradhan denied bail, sent to jail

Bhubaneswar, Nov 30 :

The arrested Talcher MLA Brajakishore Pradhan has been sent to the Talcher subdivisional jail on Saturday night after the Angul SDJM court rejected his bail plea and remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.

He has been charged by the police under sections 147, 148, 426, 336, 427, 447, 294, 506, 307 of the IPC and several sections under the Criminal Law Amendment Act .

Pradhan who was injured in Friday’s violence at the Jagannath Colliery railway siding on Friday, was arrested from his residence here this afternoon and taken to Angul where he was forwarded to the local SDJM court amid tight police security.

The local as well as the state police sources remained tight-lipped over the matter until late evening.

A top police source later told OST that the MLA is facing a number of serious charges and was responsible for creating law and order situation over the past few months that not only affected the functioning of the collieries but also the thermal power generation units like NTPC which were completely dependent on coal supply from Talcher.

The Angul district Congress president Pratap Chandra Pradhan has condemned the move and warned of bigger trouble if he is not set free immediately.
