Tamando firing: Prime accused arrested from Odisha’s Paradip

In a major breakthrough in Tamando firing incident on outskirts of Odisha capital, Commissionerate police today arrested the prime accused Bapi Pattnaik from Paradip.

Bhismajit Pattnaik alias Bapi had allegedly shot a youth, identified as Abhijit Behera, on March 15 over past hostility. He was at large since the incident.

The Tamando police recovered a 9-mm pistol and two rounds bullets from Bapi’s possession. The case was registered against him under section 302, 307, 341, 323, 294, 506, 34 of IPC and 25, 27 of Arms Act.

Earlier, police had arrested parents and a relative of Bapi on charges of inducing to shoot Abhijit.

Pravakar Pattnaik (55), Snehalata Patnaik (45) and Soumyajit Behera alias Kanha (24) were arrested under section 302, 301, 341, 323, 294, 506 and 34 of IPC.

The incident had occurred at around 6 pm on March 15 near Tamando panchayat office where Abhijit alias Sipu, the only son of Basant Behera of Nua Sahi, and his cousin Badal were stopped by Pravakar Pattnaik, his sons Bapi and Liku and relative Kanha over past dispute during Dola festival while they were going to market.

Bapi attacked Sipu and Badal with mouser. While Badal managed to run off the place, Sipu became the victim. The accused Bapi along with his brother Liku fled the spot following the incident.

Sipu was rushed to Amri Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
