Tata Steel mounts massive op to fight dengue in Odisha’s Kalinganagar industrial hub

Kalinganagar, Sept 8:

With dengue spreading rapidly across the Kalinganagar industrial hub and adjoining areas in Odisha’s Jajpur district,
a 60 member Dengue Prevention Team of Tata Steel under the leadership of an entomologist and comprising highly skilled operators and supervisors, is working on war footing, a company release informed.

A truck mounted fogging machine, brought from Jamshedpur for the purpose, is being used for fogging at a massive scale at the plant site at Kalinganagar and its periphery. It has already covered the plant site, labour colonies, and rehabilitation colonies of Tata Steel at Gobarghati, Trijanga, Sansailo and independent rehabilitation at Ramathenga, the release said.

Nineteen teams are executing the Dengue prevention activities at the plant site. Besides, all workers and line managers working at Tata Steel plant at Kalinganagar are using mosquito repellant cream before joining work. Mass cleaning of various sites inside the plant is being carried out on a regular basis, the release added.

Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS), the CSR arm of Tata Steel, has also intensified fogging and larvicidal spray in villages located in and around Kalinganagar, the release said, adding, while TSRDS has covered villages like Madhuban, Mirgichera, Baragadia, Gadapur, Nuagaon, Dholapathara and Rayanal under Sukinda and Danagadi block of Jajpur district, fogging operations would be expanded soon to other nearby villages.

The release said, to boost awareness, which is critical for prevention of such diseases, Tata Steel has intensified awareness campaign on Dengue and Malaria. Massive awareness programmes are being organised not only in the plant site, but also in labour colonies and other villages of the area.

Sensitisation sessions are being conducted for groups of people for better impact. Besides distributing leaflets and posters on ways to prevent dengue, Information Communication and Education Van has also been put into use for creating awareness among the villagers, the release added.
