Tata Steel provides food, shelter to Phailin victims

The Tata Relief Committee (TRC) of the Tata Steel has initiated various steps to reach out to the Phailin victims by providing shelter and food.

A special relief camp in collaboration with the district administration was opened in the worst-affected Ganjam district at the JN Tata Technical Institute Hostel at Gopalpur.

People from the periphey villages including Badaputi, S Paikapada, B Paikapada were shifted to the camp, where they were served cooked food and provided treatment and medicines. Similar initiatives were also taken up in Joda, Sukinda and Harichandanpur in Jajpur and Keonjhar districts.

The TRC distributed food packets and polythene sheets to the cyclone affected villages of Ganjam under the guidance of the State Special Relief Commission (SRC) and various district authorities in flood-hit Jajpur and Keonjhar.

The TRC has been providing service to the people of the state during natural calamities since 1961.

Its interventions in recent times includes construction of 435 houses and 35 school-cum-cyclone centres for those affected by the Super Cyclone in 1999 and relief distribution to around 5.5 lakh families during the floods between 2000 and 2011.
