Bhubaneswar, Aug 26:

The Twin City Commissionerate police today arrested a private tutor for allegedly killing a student’s mother at his coaching centre in Chandrasekharpur area of Odisha capital last evening.

The accused, identified as Rasmiranjan Sahoo, has confessed that he killed Jaya P Sila, the student’s mom, by strangulating her, informed Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.

According to reports, Jaya, a resident of BJB Nagar here, had yesterday gone to the coaching centre in her car to enquire about her son’s progress in studies. As she started asking questions to Sahoo in this regard and expressed displeasure over the studies, the teacher allegedly attacked her in a fit of rage.

Moments later, Sahoo called the car driver, who was standing outside the coaching centre, and told him that Jaya has become unconscious.

Chandrasekharpur police reached the spot when the duo was gearing up to take Jaya to hospital in the car. Police rescued the lady and admitted her to Capital Hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Following the incident, police had yesterday detained Sahoo and the car driver for interrogation and arrested the former today.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the lady was strangulated to death. However, we are waiting for the post mortem and forensic team reports to get a complete picture of the incident,” said DCP Bhoi.
