Teacher dies while addressing protest rally in Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: A primary teacher died of suspected cardiac arrest while addressing a protest rally near PMG square in Bhubaneswar this afternoon. The deceased, identified as Niranjan Barik was a resident of Gopa Bandhu Nagar in Mayurbhanj district.

Naik, the president of Mayurbhanj District Teachers’ Association, died while speaking at the protest rally demanding justice for applicants who have suffered due to wrong questions in Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET).

Following the death of Naik, Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association President Sharat Naik urged the State government to provide a job to one of family members of the deceased and Rs 50 lakh compensation.

Earlier the State government had announced that teachers would not get salary increment if they do not clear the OTET by March 2019.

As many as 22,000 teachers have been employed at Upper Primary and Middle English schools in the State since 2008.
