A three-member team headed by former PCCF (Wildlife) Saroj Kumar Patnaik will investigate giraffe death. The team would submit its report in seven days, forest department sources said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the five-year-old male giraffe had died of heart stroke.

Joy, which was brought from Kolkata’s Alipore Zoo five days ago in exchange of four tigers under the animal exchange programme, collapsed at 8.15 am yesterday and died at 10.50 am.

State Forest and Environment minister Bikram Keshari Arukh yesterday directed the PCCF (wildlife) to probe the premature death of the animal.
