Sources said the boy, identified as Akash Badaik (15), a resident of Hariharnagar Basti, Chhend, alongwith his two friends Sudarsan Gope (15) and Saurav Ekka (15), had gone to the abandoned quarry at Tulsitola for bathing on Wednesday morning. At around 11 am, while the three friends were bathing, Akash Badaik’s foot slipped inside the water and he drowned there.

Seeing Akash drown, his two friends came outside and screamed for help. Locals jumped into the water and rescued Akash from water. They took him to Hitech Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The family members brought the body of Akash to their home. But after seeing the body of Akash, a nurse residing nearby said he was still alive since he was shaking his legs. The family members again took the body of Akash to Vesaj Hospital but Vesaj hospital authorities advised them to take him to Rourkela Govt. Hospital (RGH) where doctors again declared him brought dead.

On Wednesday afternoon, the family members of the deceased Akash Badaik lodged a report in Chhend police station about his death after drowning.

” An unnatural death case has been registered. We are investigating the case,” said NK Sarangi, IIC, Chhend Police station.
