Teenager on a picnic drowns in sea in Odisha’s Puri

Puri: Revelry turned tragic for a group of school students in Odisha today as one of them drowned in sea while taking bath.

The teenager studying in Class XII in St Xavier High School near Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar had gone on school picnic with batchmates at Jahania in Puri district.

The deceased identified as Prateek Mohapatra along with other students had ventured into sea to take bath. However, he slipped into deep waters and was unable to swim to safety.

While other students raised an alarm, locals rescued him and rushed to Astaranga Primary Health Centre (PHC) and later to Nimapada Community Health Centre (CHC). However, attending doctors declared him dead on arrival.

It was alleged that the teachers allowed the students to take bath in the sea.
