Tension in Chheligarh following temple damage

Armed police forces have been deployed at Chheligarh under R Udayagiri tehsil of Gajapati district after unidentified miscreants uprooted the Nilachakra of Lord Hanuman temple and damaged the top part of Lord Siva’s temple in the village late on Monday night.

The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when Babula Mohapatra, priest of the Hanuman and Siva temples, found the uprooted Nilachakra of the Hanuman temple lying on the ground and the top part of the Siva temple, broken.

Tension mounted as the news spread and a large crowd gathered around the temple.

Soon, the IIC of R Udayagiri police station Jayadev Biswajit rushed to the village with two sections of armed police force.

After collecting information from the villagers, the IIC received a written complaint the from Chheligarh Village Committee president Dibakar Ransingh Nayak.

Stating that this was the first such incident in the village, the local people demanded immediate investigation into the incident and identification of the culprits at the earliest.

Later, talking to newsmen, the IIC said on the basis of the FIR, investigation is on.

“The situation is tense but under control”, he said.
