Tension in Odisha’s Steel City after girl is killed in mishap

In a tragic incident, a 16-year-old girl died in a road accident this morning in Rourkela, the Steel City of Odisha.

The girl, identified as Sarita Barua (16) was a resident of Ganji basti area at Sector-1 of the city.

The accident happened at about 10.45 AM today while she was returning home from Sector-8 square. A truck bearing registration number MBH-7804, which was going towards Sector-19 area, dashed her from the back making her fall down on the spot and injuring her gravely.

After the accident, the driver of truck fled from the spot leaving the truck behind on the spot.

Sector-15 police officials rushed to the scene after getting information, and sent the injured girl to Ispat General Hospital (IGH), where doctors declared dead on arrival.

Tension erupted at the hospital as her family members did not allow police to conduct post mortem and demanded compensation. The body of the girl continues to be in morgue of IGH as the family members of the deceased continue to demand compensation for the loss.  Sector-15 police are reportedly in talks with the kin of the deceased to work out a deal.

While the cops have summoned the owner of truck to Sector-15 police station, senior police officials along with Sector-15 police station Sub Inspector SK Nayak are discussing with the family members to sort out the issue.

Rourkela Police, in the meanwhile, have also seized the truck and are on a look out to arrest the driver.

“We are now searching for the driver of the truck. We will arrest him very soon,” said SK Nayak, Sub Inspector of Sector-15 police station.

Just out of her X grade exam, the girl used to frequent Sector-8 to undergo diploma coaching.
