Thanksgiving: CM lays stone for 11 projects in Brahmapur

On his thanksgiving visit to this premier southern Odisha city for the mandate it has given his party in the recent municipal election, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday laid foundation stone for 11 different projects in and around Brahmapur town.

Taken together, the 11 projects would cost the state exchequer a cool Rs 800-crore, official sources said.

The ruling BJD, it may be noted, won 24 out of the 40 wards in the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) election on September 19 and easily won the election for the Mayor’s post that went to K Madhavi.

The major projects for which Naveen laid the foundations stones on Thursday included three railway over bridges (ROB) (Rs 163-crore), a drinking water project (Rs 415-crore), solid waste management project (SWMP) (Rs 70-crore), construction of 22-km-long road from Luchapada to Nandika (Rs 25.15-crore), city bus depot and terminal (Rs 12-crore).

The other projects are a driving training and road safety institute to be established in public private partnership (PPP) mode in association with the Tata Motors at Palur near here, an eye hospital by the LV Prasad Eye Institute, the new buildings for the Berhampur Development Authority (BDA) and an Industrial Training Institute (ITI).

The Ganjam district administration has provided 20 acres of land of land for the establishment of the driving training institute and 2 acres for the eye hospital.

A MoU was signed between the state government and Tata Motors Limited on March 30, 2013 for setting up of the driving institute, which would cost around Rs 11-crore.
