Third edition of Street Store organised in Odisha’s Puri

The third edition of ‘Street Store’ was organised by Radio Choklate yesterday in the beach town of Odisha’s Puri. The ‘Street Store’ is an open source concept wherein apparels donated by people are put up for the poor and needy and gives them an opportunity to shop with dignity.

Campaigns and announcements for the publicity of this unique shopping experience were done beforehand for the contribution and collection of clothes for men, women and children. Donations in the form of sarees, shirts, pants, dhotis and kidswear came in large numbers from the residents of Puri.

The store opened at 10 am opposite the Victoria Hotel on the beach and customers thronged the open shop till 5 pm. Over 600 people chose and picked clothes of their liking, free of cost. Radio Choklate, in association with Bakul Foundation and Fate Fighters Dance Group arranged and managed the event.

Tanaya Patnaik, the Executive Director of Radio Choklate, thanked Puri residents for their contributions and making the Street Store such a success.

The Street Store was first thought-out by the South African duo, Max Pazak and Kayli Levitan for the homeless and needy. It is an open market-like place where the unprivileged are allowed to browse through clothes that are donated by the locals and select whatever they need. It is the world’s first rent-free and premises free pop-up shop. Since then, it has seen 339 editions in 33 cities worldwide. Anyone can host their own street shop anywhere in the world.

In India, Radio Choklate organized the first two editions in Bhubaneswar.
