Third phase of Odisha panchayat polls begins

Voting for the third phase of the three-tier panchayat polls in Odisha began today from 7 am at polling booths across the state and will continue till noon.

A total of 53,23,993 voters would exercise their franchise in order to elect 175 Zilla Parishad Members, 1,394 Sarpanchs and Panchayat Samiti Members, and 18,859 Ward Members in 175 Zilla Parishad zones of 65 blocks in 30 districts.

Police forces have been deployed at sensitive booths to avoid any untoward incident. Besides, security has been tightened in Maoist-hit districts.
