Third Test: Australia 174-3 against India at tea

Melbourne, Dec 26: Australia were 174 for 3 against India at tea on the first day of the Third Test here today.

Captain Steven Smith (23) and Shaun March (32) were batting.

The platform set by Rogers and Watson was in danger of being squandered when both batsmen fell in successive overs after the scoreboard had begun to stagnate in the hour after lunch.

But Smith and Marsh played with plenty of care to establish a partnership, and raised their 50-stand just before the interval.

For India, Umesh Yadav, Mohd Shami and R Ashwin claimed one wicket each.
