Thiruvadhirai Vrat 2021 Date, Tithi, Rituals, Significance, Other Details

Thiruvadhirai Vrat, also known as Arudra Darshan Vrat, is observed on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Maarkazi.

The vrat is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thiruvadhirai is also considered to be the nakshatra of Lord Nataraja and is the longest night of the year.

This festival is celebrated in the southern Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Arudra Darshan Vrat 2021 Date: December 20, Monday.

Nakshatra Timing: December 19, 4:52 pm – December 20, 7:46 pm.

Rituals:

On this day, devotees wake up early in the morning, take bath, and worship the image of Lord Nataraj.

They also visit temples of Lord Shiva to seek His blessings.

Several offerings to the Lord is made by the devotees on this occasion.

Abhishekam, a ritualistic bath of the Lord, is also performed with milk and curd.

Devotees witness the anointing ceremony of Lord Nataraj.

There is also a ritual of lighting the abode of Lord Shiva with ghee diyas.

A special sweet known as ‘Kali’ and ‘Thalakam’, a multi-vegetable dish, is prepared to celebrate the occasion.

Devotees also observe fast for the whole day. They break their fast on the next day after worshipping Lord Shiva. A partake meal is then eaten with other Saivite devotees.

Significance:

The vrat  honours the graceful and blissful dance of Lord Shiva and devotees observe this vrat to please the God and receive His blessings.
