Thrashed by teacher, ITI college student dies by suicide in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Student of an ITI college in Mancheswar area of Odisha capital allegedly died by suicide after being thrashed by his teacher.

His body was found hanging at the hostel of the educational institution today. The deceased was identified as Rudra Madhab Rana.

Though the reason behind the death was yet to be ascertained, his mother alleged that a teacher of the college used to thrash him.

“Bhawani Sir had beaten my son yesterday. He telephoned me and told me about the incident. He was earlier saying that he would end his life if the teacher beat him again,” the deceased’s mother said.

“After getting the phone call from my son, I had called the hostel warden and informed him about the matter. I also urged the warden to leave Rudra to go home. However, the warden told me that it was not possible without the permission of the college authorities,” she added.

The Mancheswar police have recovered the body for post-mortem and started an investigation into the incident.

Police have also recorded the statement of the college authorities.

Rudra’s family members have lodged a complaint in this regard with the police, on the basis of which the accused teacher will be questioned.
