Three cadre Maoists surrender in Odisha

Koraput, May 18:

Three armed cadre Maoists surrendered before the police in Odisha’s Koraput district today.

maoistBriefing newsmen after their surrender, IG, South-Western Range, Yashwant Jethwa said the three Maoists—Lachhmi Praska, Sapai Maniaka and Talasa Wateka—were the armed cadre members of the Koraput Division Narayanpatna Committee.

“Of the three surrendered Maoists, one of them had joined the outfit in 2008, and the other two in 2010 and 2011. The state government had announced cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each on their head”, he said.

The IG said the trio, during interrogation, informed that they were lured by the Maoist leaders with false promises which they realised after joining the outfit.

“Besides, the three Maoists also said the Maoist leaders, contrary to their promise of the socio-economic development of the tribals, have made them a soft target by killing several innocent tribals which was unacceptable to them for which they decided to surrender”, Jethwa said.
