Three engineers burnt alive in Odisha road mishap

In a mind numbing incident, three engineers were burnt alive in a road accident on the outskirts of Odisha’s capital in the wee hours of Saturday.

fireAccording to reports, a car carrying three engineers, was on its way from Bhubaneswar to Brahmapur when it collided head-on with a truck near Malipada square on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar at about 3 am. In the meanwhile, another truck, coming from behind rammed into the car causing it to catch fire.

It happened so suddenly that the three engineers inside the car could not come out and were burnt alive inside it.

The deceased have been identified as Samir Das, Himanshu Panigrahi and Dilip Rath, all of them over 50 years of age and natives of Nilakantha Nagar in Bijipur area of Brahmapur city.

All of them were assistant engineers in the Irrigation department.

Family sources said the deceased were heading for Brahmapur after attending a social function in Bhubaneswar.

Family members of Samir Das and Himanshu Panigrahi arrived in Bhubaneswar this morning, while the kin of Dilip Rath will arrive a short while from now.

The bodies, after the post mortem at the Khordha District Headquarters Hospital, would be handed over to the family members, police said.

Meanwhile, the police and an ambulance van have rushed to the mishap site.

Efforts are on remove the charred bodies from the car and remove it from the road to ease vehicular traffic on the busy National Highway No 5.
