Three held for boozing at COVID-19 isolation ward in Odisha

Puri: Even as the State government is trying hard to ensure people maintain social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems the efforts are being ignored. In Nuapada Krushnaprasad area of Puri district, three persons were found consuming liquor in an isolation ward of a temporary medical centre set up at Nuapada gram panchayat office.

Today police arrested the three persons including a panchayat samiti member. Taking  disciplinary action against the persons responsible for the incident, the district administration suspended local panchayat executive officer Guru Soumyaranjan Behera for dereliction of duties.

This apart, the local Gram Rojgar Sevak Mukesh Kumar Jena who was assigned to oversee the temporary medical centre was suspended by the administration.

In Pipili area of Puri district, one person has been tested positive for the deadly virus.
