Three killed in train mishap in Odisha’s Nuapada district

Three persons were killed when a passenger train hit a car near an unmanned level crossing at Kalyanpur in Odisha’s Nuapada district this morning.

According to reports, an Indica car, carrying three persons, was on the way to Gotama from Kalyanpur in the morning hours.

While the car was crossing an unmanned level crossing at Kalyanpur between Nuapada and Khariar railways stations, the Bhawanipatna-Raipur Passenger train hit the vehicle killing all of them on the spot.

The incident took place at 7.42 AM.

The train, after colliding with the car, dragged it to a distance before halting at the spot.

The impact of collision was so severe that the car was split into two pieces. While a portion of the car fell on the field beside the rail track, another portion of it lay on the track in which the bodies of the three passengers including the driver were found.

The deceased have been identified as the natives of Gotama village which nearer to mishap site at Kalyanpur.

Tension ran high soon after the incident as the people of Gotama village rushed to the spot and staged rail roko demanding construction of a level crossing.

They also warned that they would not allow train services in this route as long as their demands were not met.

The villagers alleged that though they have been demanding the construction of a level crossing for a long time, the Railway authorities have not yet taken any steps in this regard.

Following the mishap, some trains were halting at Titlagarh, Kantabanjhi railway stations while another train was halting at Baghbara railway station in the bordering Chhattisgarh, reports said.

Till reports last came, barring some Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and the local police, no senior Railway officials have reached the spot.
