Three Odisha men arrested for posting COVID-19 misinformation on social media

Jajpur/Berhampur: Three persons have been arrested in Ganjam and Jajpur districts on charges of posting and circulating misinformation about novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on social media.

The Balichandrapur Police registered a case under sections 153/153(A)(B)/292(2A)/500/504 of IPC and 67 of IT Act against a person in Jajpur district for objectionable posts related to COVID-19 on social media.

Police source said that the accused had posted some videos on Facebook to create communal disharmony.

In a similar incident, Berhampur police on Sunday arrested two persons for uploading false information on social media. The accused persons were identified as Basa Viswesar Rao (40) and Dibakar Pradhan (41). The duo is accused of posting misinformation on COVID-19 with an intention to create panic among people.
