Three private colleges to get varsity status in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has approved a proposal recommending university status for three private colleges in the state.

The three educational institutions – Asian Institute of Public Health (AIPH) in Bhubaneswar, Asian School of Business Management (ASBM) in Bhubaneswar and Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) in Gunupur – will be granted the university status after a bill gets nod in Odisha Assembly.

While the bill will be tabled by Health & Family Welfare department in the House for AIPH, Higher Education department and Skill Development & Technical Education departments will present the bill in the Assembly for ASBM and GIET respectively.

The government approved three out of 12 educational institutions that had applied for the varsity status. With grant of university status to these three, total number of universities in the State will reach 24.

Currently, there are 14 government-run universities, five private universities and two deemed universities in Odisha.
