The deceased has been identified as six-year-old Swetalina Behera, daughter of Tapan and Lili Behera.

The unfortunate incident occurred while the three were going to Cuttack on a bike. The girl’s throat sustained severe injuries because of the cut by the sharp string. The parents took their child to a private nursing home where she succumbed to the injury in the throat and profuse bleeding.

There have been several incidents of injury and even death due to kite flying with the metal and Chinese glass kite strings around the country. Kite flying is very popular part of Makar Sankranti celebrations among the youth in Odisha and parts of India.
