Tigress Megha under surveillance after fight with Bijaya in Odisha zoo

Bhubaneswar: Injured tigress Megha was put under surveillance by the zoo authorities after fight with another tigress Bijaya and her two cubs in Nandankanan zoological park on the city’s outskirts here.

Megha was found unstable, disturbed and irritated for which she was not allowed to stay in the enclosure.

The zoo authorities have kept a close watch on the activities of injured tigress.

On the other hand, two cubs Adyasha and Sahil were put inside the enclosure of Nandankanan after vaccinating them. They were injured in the fight on Saturday.

According to reports, Megha (9), who was inside enclosure no 31-A, was injured after she jumped the enclosure and attacked tigress Bijaya and her two cubs Adyasha and Sahil in enclosure no 32-B. All of them — Megha, Bijaya and her cubs sustained minor injuries during the fight.

The authorities reached the spot and separated them. A team of doctors examined their health condition and vaccinated them for their safety.

However, the reason behind jumping the enclosure by Megha is yet to be ascertained. The investigation is underway why Megha climbed the grill and entered the enclosure where Bijaya and her cubs were staying.

Following the incident, the zoo officials have started repairing the grill and fence.

The authorities are planning for a double line fence at the enclosures.
