Tipper with iron ore seized in Odisha; owner, driver arrested

Police today arrested the owner and the driver of a tipper and forwarded them to court in Odisha’s Sundargarh district allegedly for illegally transporting iron ore in the vehicle, police said.

Police have seized the iron ore weighing around 10 MT and the tipper while investigations are on.

Police sources said a tipper bearing registration no.OR-09J-6478 carrying iron ore weighing about 10 MT was detained by Lahunipada police at Kaleiposh under Lahunipada police limits in Sundargarh district late on Friday night.

On enquiry, police found that the tipper, after loading the material from Joda area, was going towards Rourkela to unload the material.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Lahunipada police station and was subjected to interrogation after he failed to produce documents pertaining to the transport of iron ore to the police.

Owner of the seized tipper Sukhwinder Singh reached Lahunipada police station this morning and produced documents pertaining to the consignment. Singh and driver of the vehicle Chandan Sharma were arrested and later forwarded to court after the documents were found to be fake on scrutiny by the police.

Police have also seized the tipper along with the iron ore.

“We have arrested both the owner and driver of the vehicle. We have also seized the tipper along with the iron ore. Investigations are on in the case, , said R K Sahoo, IIC, Lahunipada Police station.
