Toll in Khordha firecracker explosion rises to five

Bhubaneswar: The toll in yesterday’s explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit at Bhusandpur village under Tangi police limits in Odisha’s Khordha district has risen to five.

Dolagobinda Behera, who had suffered more than 70 per cent burn injuries and was undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, breathed his last at the government healthcare facility.

The explosion had yesterday claimed lives of four people and left several others injured.

The mishap occurred when the victims were reportedly making firecrackers for the Dola Utsav.

“The firecracker unit was operating illegally. No license was issued for it. We will investigate the incident and take strict action against the concerned persons,” said Khordha Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy.
