According to reports, the top cop held meetings with senior police and paramilitary personnel to take stock of the situation and device further strategy to combat Maoist menace.

After arriving at the district headquarters town, Priyadarshi visited the Kaliajhula area of Ramgiri under Baipariguda police limits in the district where a jawan and a Deputy Commandant of the Border Security Force (BSF) were killed yesterday during combing operation.

The deceased, Deputy Commandant Sunil Behera and jawan Sibasish Panda, fell victim to the IED blast carried out by Maoists while they were returning to their camp at Dandabadi after combing operation.

A group of around 20 BSF personnel were returning on two-wheelers when the landmine went off, hardly 3 km from the camp, killing the duo and injuring another.

Following the incident, combing operation was intensified in the area.

The blast occurred on the day when the members of the outlawed group were observing a bandh in Nuapada, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts of Odisha and parts of neighbouring Chhattisgarh in protest against ‘Operation Green Hunt’.
