Bhubaneswar, Mar 2:

An Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) rank officer, in charge of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s carcade security, was placed on suspension today following the security breach on February 19.

egg thrown at cmBinod Dash, posted as Additional DCP (Security) and in-charge of the Chief Minister’s carcade security, was removed from the post for dereliction in duty and security lapse.

The DCP has been suspended and an ACP rank officer has been appointed for this purpose, a state Home Department notification said.

A day after a group of Youth Congress activists had broken the security cordon, pelted eggs and showed black flags at the Chief Minister’s convoy near Keshari Talkies while he was on his way to attend the students’ union function at Utkal University, two police officers were suspended by the Commissionerate police for dereliction in duty.

The suspended police officers were Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the Kharavela Nagar zone SK Sarifuddin and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Kharvela Nagar police station PK Sahu.

On the very day State’s DGP Sanjiv Marik had admitted that there was a security lapse on the part of the Commissionerate police.

“We had got intelligence input at around 2 pm that some miscreants were planning to throw eggs and would show black flag at the Chief Minister’s convoy. Clearly, there was negligence on the part of some police personnel on duty, which led to this security lapse,” the DGP had said.

He had also said that disciplinary action against those responsible would be taken for breach of security.

Meanwhile, seven youth Congress supporters, arrested by the Commissionerate police, were released from the Jharpada jail today after a local court here granted them bail.
