Koraput, Nov 5:

Koraput police today claimed to have made a major breakthrough with the arrest of a Maoist from Narayanpatna area.

Police said the arrested Maoist Jhadu Tadingi, local leader of Narayanpatna Area Committee of Srikakulam Koraput Divisional Committee (SKDC) of CPI (Maoist), was wanted by the police in 12 murder cases.

Jhadu was arrested following a tip-off on Sunday, two days after security personnel shot dead a Red ultra in the district in an exchange of fire, police said.

Koraput SP Awinash Kumar told newsmen police launched an operation to nab Jhadu following intelligence inputs suggesting that he was moving in the forested area near Dumsil village under Narayanpatna police limits.

He said Jhadu, who had initially joined the Chasi Muliya Adivasi Sangh (CMAS), was later inducted into the armed squad of Maoists in 2009. Jhadu was involved in the murders of at least 12 civilians branding them as police informers in Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon blocks, he added.

Meanwhile, BSF personnel recovered a country-made gun, medicines and Maoist literature from a rebel hideout at a forest near Rangamguda under Narayanpatna police limits during an operation on Monday.
