Top woman Maoist injured in exchange of fire surrenders before Odisha police

Koraput: Shunning violence,  a woman cadre Maoist, who was injured in an exchange of fire in Andhra Pradesh last year, surrendered before police in Odisha’s Koraput district today.

Area Committee Member (ACM) Rame Madkami, who was working in RK protection group, today surrendered before Koraput police during observation of PLGA Week of Maoist. After her surrender, Madkami, a resident of Kurub under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district, was sent for a medical check-up.

Her medical reports said that she had a bullet injury in  her body that she had sustained during an exchange  of fire in forest at Landulu village under Pedabailu police station in Andhra Pradesh in 2020. But her party had not provided her any medical treatment as she belongs to Odisha cadre, said a statement issued by Koraput police.

She has been handed over to her family members and the district police is taking steps for her proper treatment.  Steps are also afoot to provide monetary assistance as per the surrender and rehabilitation scheme of Odisha Government. She will also get financial assistance for building house, pursuing studies and getting training in a trade or vocation of her will, the police said in the statement.
