Koraput, May 16:

Even ten days after the abduction of a girl from Semiliguda in Odisha’s Koraput district, the police are yet to make any headway in the case. Neither the girl has been rescued nor have the culprits, who have circulated obscene MMS of the victim, been brought to book.

The victim, a diploma student of a technical university, from Semiliguda in Koraput district was allegedly abducted by two men on May 7 while she was returning from a private coaching class.

The parents of the victim had lodged an FIR with the local police against two accused—Tusharkanta Boi and Balaram Boi— the same day she went missing.

Worried over the fate of their abducted daughter, the parents have sought the intervention of the district administration.

Members of Dama Samaj Vikas Parishad and victim’s family on Friday met the district collector and superintendent of police to convey their concerns over the safety of the girl. The organisation had threatened to intensify agitation if the girl was not rescued safely by the police and district administration within 24 hours.

The Dama Samaj Vikas Parishad today observed a dawn to dusk bandh to press for the rescue of the abducted girl.

As per reports, Tusharkanta Boi and the victim were in a relationship which had turned physical over time. The accused purportedly filmed the sexual acts on his mobile phone and forwarded it to others as MMS. Besides, he also uploaded the obscene clips on the internet.

After circulating the video, the accused blackmailed the family members of the victim to extort money. The family claims to have coughed up around Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and at least 70 gm of gold jewellery in a desperate bid to protect the honour of the girl.

The perpetrators also threatened to wipe out the entire family if they revealed this to anybody, the family alleged.

Tusharkanta, along with his accomplice Balaram, waylaid the victim while she was returning from computer tutorial and abducted her in an SUV on May 7.

When she did not return home by evening, her father filed a missing complaint with the Sunabeda police station. The following day, the victim’s father told the police that his daughter had been abducted.

“We have registered a case and formed a squad to rescue the girl. Besides, we have asked the mobile service provider to stop the MMS from circulation,” said SDPO, Sunabeda, Ashok Patnaik.

Meanwhile, the video clips are doing rounds in Semiliguda, Sunabeda and adjoining areas.
