Tourist drowns in sea in Odisha’s Puri, dies on the way to hospital

A tourist from neighbouring West Bengal today drowned in the sea in Odisha’s Puri while taking a bath.

According to reports, a high tide swept away the tourist while he was taking a bath in the sea near Swargadwara here. His friends raised an alarm following which the life guards jumped in to rescue him.

The life guards rescued Khattar from the sea and rushed him to the District Heaqdquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment after giving him first-aid. He was taken to the hospital with the help of the dedicated ambulance provided by the Fire Services department.

According to sources, the tourist was conscious and complained of angina while being transported to the healthcare facility. However, the doctors declared him dead after examining him.

The visitor hailing from 24 Parganas district has been identified as Sukadev Khatal.

The family members of the deceased have been informed about the unfortunate incident.  Post-mortem would be conducted after the kin of the deceased reach here. The body has been kept in the mortuary, sources said.

An unnatural death case has been registered with Sea Beach police station here.
