TPCODL official, aide held for taking Rs 10,000 bribe through PhonePe

Bhubaneswar: Tarun Ranjan Nayak, working as OAG-III, O/O GRF, TPCODL at Nayapalli in the capital city here and his associate Sailaja Muduli were apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and accepting Rs10,000 as bribe from a person through PhonePe (Digital mode) for processing the grievance application for electricity connection to latter’s residence.

Nayak sought a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant through PhonePe yesterday to register a case at GRF/Ombudsman TPCODL and pass a favourable order for new electricity connection to the latter’s house.

Finding no other option, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance department and paid the bribe in the PhonePe number of Muduli.

Nayak was arrested by the Vigilance sleuths while receiving the grievance application from the complainant.

It is suspected that Nayak was regularly taking bribes from people via PhonePe, said an official of the Vigilance department.

“A case has been registered in this regard under PC Amendment Act, 2018 at Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station. The accused duo has been produced in a local court,” added the official.
