Traffic jam claims life of 4-year-old girl in Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: The life of a four-year-old girl would have been saved if the ambulance in which she was being moved could have reached hospital in the State Capital on time.

The little girl, a resident of Satya Nagar Housing Board Colony, was being rushed to the nearby Nilachal Hospital by her family members after she was rescued from a water tank yesterday. However, she lost her life on the way to hospital after the ambulance, in which she was being taken, got stuck in a traffic jam on Janpath Road here.

Sources said the ambulance got stuck in traffic near Big Bazaar-Malisahi road, following which the driver took another route via hotel Swasti Grand to avoid the congestion. However, the situation turned even worse. Vehicular movement on the Janpath Road had come to standstill due to a protest rally staged at Lower PMG by several organisations. The helpless family members were seen requesting the crowd on the road with folded hands to clear the blockade. But, the little girl died by the time the ambulance reached the hospital.

Surprisingly, when asked, the Kharvel Nagar police said they don’t have received any such report.
