Traffic signals to be removed in Bhubaneswar: Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar: In a move aimed at easing vehicular congestion, traffic signals will be removed from various intersections in Bhubaneswar, informed Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra today.

This proposal is expected to relieve citizens from the long waits at red lights.

Mahapatra said that alternative arrangements will be made to manage the traffic flow effectively. This will include the construction of overbridges and approach roads.

He said departmental-level discussions will be held soon to finalize the decision and implement the changes.

The minister also clarified that the Bhubaneswar Metro project, the preliminary work of which was earlier started by the BJD government, will not be canceled.

If required, the state government will seek assistance from the Centre after reviewing the metro project, said Mahapatra.
